Robert Tolchin is a photographer as comfortable in his darkroom as he is in front of his computer monitor.
Born in Chicago and currently residing in northern Illinois, Tolchin is a second generation photographer and graduate of the fine art photography program at Columbia College Chicago. His commercial career has taken him from corporate boardrooms to hospital operating rooms, while his fine art photography runs from film-based, traditional black and white to conceptual, computer enhanced imagery. His commercial work has appeared in hundreds of magazines, advertisements, websites and corporate annual reports; his fine art has been exhibited widely and hangs in corporate and private collections worldwide.
Having spent most of his career straddling the line between fine art and commercial photography, Robert is now concentrating solely on fine art photography and teaching. Current projects include a series of tea-toned cyanotypes, as well as his ongoing Blue Highways series traveling the backroads of the American Midwest documenting the changing topography.
