A Day in the Life of a Photo Assistant

Tolchin_Blog_AssistantB.jpg

Thanks to Jon Hamblin for his help on our Chicago industrial photography shoot last week (he really does more than walk around with an 18% gray card all day). Fun shoot documenting the production of pipes and tubes from raw steel.

Fine Art

Tolchin_blistex_blog4.jpg

This fine art piece by Highwood photographer Robert Tolchin was recently acquired by a major corporation in the lip care industry. At approximately 50 times life size, printed on canvas, the piece looks very much like a photo-realistic oil painting.

Thanks to MaxLab for the great canvas print on this piece and the one shown below.

This fine art print is currently on dispaly at The Art Center, Highland Park. It's difficult to convey the impact of the piece on screen, but at 2x3 feet, it is very impressive. Printed on canvas, it has the feeling of a charcoal drawing.

Sometimes you just have to.

Earlier this week we photographed this amazing gentleman for a hospital annual report. Nice shot. Color, full page, annual report photo. Maybe portfolio worthy, maybe not. But before we moved on to our next set-up, I knew what I had to do. As I directed the subject, Angela moved the lights into position. Two minutes.

Sometimes you just have to.

It has been said that the best camera is the one you have with you. Only sometimes it's not a camera at all, it's a telephone. iPhone photo of sunset over Wrigley Field by Highland Park photographer Bob Tolchin.

Bonny and I shot this magazine cover at a lumber yard in Delavan, Wisconsin a couple of months ago. A few other shots from this assignment can be seen on my March 29 blog entry.
